The butterfly is often seen during Easter because it is a traditional symbol for resurrection and eternal life in Christian churches. This tiny insect begins it's life as a mere egg, then larva, and then pupa only to emerge from a cocoon (symbolic for the grave) as a beautiful adult butterfly with glorious wings! So, the stages of it's life are said to mirror the transformation of soul and body in the Christian experience.
